During September 3-5, Ethiopian mainstream media successively expressed concerns about the official visit of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abbey to China and the achievements of Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation with Abbey as a major participant. Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) expressed concerns over the opening ceremony of Beijing Summit and President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech, believing that Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation will further strengthen China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and promote South-South cooperation. ENA also paid attention to President Xi’s meeting with Prime Minister Abbey, and believed that the two sides had reached broad consensus on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields. Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation reported that President Xi announced that China would provide 60 billion U.S. dollars to support Africa in the next three years, and said that Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation ended in a complete success. Through the summit, China has successfully demonstrated to the international community that it will assume more responsibility for African development. The TV station and website of Fina Broadcasting Company (a sated-owned company of Ethiopia) reported the grand occasion of Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the meeting between the leaders of China and Prime Minister Abbey, saying that under the witness of the prime ministers of the two countries, the two sides signed a series of cooperation documents to further strengthen their bilateral relations. Ethiopian largest circulation newspapers, Reporter and Daily Observer, also reported extensively on Abbey’s visit to China and the dynamics of Beijing Summit. Reporter expressed concern over the consensus reached by China and Ethiopia on rollover and interest rate reduction regarding Ethiopia’s debt owing to China, saying that China's move will greatly reduce Ethiopia's external debt pressure. Daily Observer reported that the leaders of China and Ethiopia pledged to continue to support each other on issues involving their core interests and major concerns, and expressed concern over Abbey’ meeting with Hu Xiaolian (president of Export-Import Bank of China), saying that the move would help both sides reach a consensus on the issue of debt restructuring.
